Is mold really going to kill us all?

With so much talk lately about mold and its effect on health, I thought I would write a little about it. Is it another thing to add to the list of stuff that will kill us? Or are we being played?

Some say it’s bad, some say it’s nothing to worry about. Who’s right? Well, as in most things, you have to consider the source. I’m not an expert on anything (except pressure washing of course) but a little digging around online was eye opening for me. The actual mold experts (scientists, not people who do mold clean-up) say that all of this mold hysteria is unfounded and I think they are right. What could they possibly gain by misrepresenting the issue? I’m not saying that there aren’t situations where mold could present legitimate health concerns, but, maybe, just maybe, could it be that someone is trying to creating a boogeyman to make money off of?

It reminds me of all the pharmaceutical commercials on TV. You know the ones. “Do you have Itchy Earlobe Syndrome? Ask your Doctor is LobeXefy is right for you!”. You’re thinking, “I never really thought about it before, but maybe my earlobes are itchy”. See what I mean?

Our business is built upon power washing mold, dirt and grime from windows, vinyl siding, decks, and driveways. But, we aren’t going to jump on the mold-is-going-to-kill-us-all bandwagon. Not cool.

Mold will make your house look bad.
If you let it grow without cleaning it, it can mess up the way your siding looks.
It can annoy your OCD neighbor.
It might get you in hot water with the Home Owners Association.
But, it probably won’t kill you. 🙂

For those who really need something to worry about…..Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be composed of dead dust mites and their droppings. How old is your pillow?

Two Story House Wash

image

Pressure washing is no picnic, especially on a 2 story home. Jacksonville, NC abounds with neighborhoods full of them. We recommend that you have your home pressure washed every 12-18 months. Pollen, mold, dust, road grime, and environmental contaminants can really build up over the course of a year. Not to mention bird droppings, spider webs, and wasp nests.

You could try to do it yourself (DIY), but we caution against it. It is easy to damage something with a pressure washer, or even get hurt, especially on a two story house. According to OSHA falls from ladders are one of the highest causes of accidental workplace deaths. And remember, those little pressure washers sold at Lowe’s and Home Depot aren’t really even designed for larger projects. They are better for washing cars, lawnmowers, and patio furniture.

How much does pressure washing cost?

cropped-combine_images_x4.jpg

You can probably guess the first thing people ask us when they call. “How much does pressure washing cost?” That’s when I ask the customer a few questions so I can determine their needs. I also try to assure the customer that we are their best choice because we have a better process (Softwashing).

Most people I talk to assume that all pressure washing companies are all the same. Not true – techniques vary, detergents used (some don’t even used detergents), safety, pressure used; etc. Everyone’s different, so their prices are going to be different too. Cheap price could be a sign of cutting corners.

Think of it this way: How much does a hamburger cost? At Burger King it costs $0.89. At Red Robin it costs $5.00. See what I mean? I’ll take the Red Robin burger! I wish the first thing people asked was not “how much does it cost?”, but “are you the best?”.

I simply don’t believe that people want “cheap” when it comes to someone providing a service at their home. Here’s what they really want:

  • Hassle free experience
  • Job done right
  • Fair price

We deliver exactly that.
